What Did We Do?

Heal the Heart had the great opportunity to spend time and make crafts with cancer patients at Texas Children's in Houston Texas. The young girls in this project went over to the Hospital two times during their Leading with Service class time and made different crafts each time they went. On Wednesday December 6, the girls made gingerbread houses out of milk cartons, personalized letters, and personalized stockings. The girls also were able to give the kids there little gifts. On Wednesday December 13, the girls made homemade ornaments, 3D snowflakes, and continued the stocking project as well. In the very end, Heal the Heart gave away little stocking packages to give to the kids the group did not have the chance to meet.

WHERE

Periwinkle Foundation

The mission of Periwinkle is to develop and provide programs that positively change the lives of children, young adults, and families who are challenged by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and are cared for at Texas Children’s Hospital. We felt that our mission statement--to heal the heart of children impacted by cancer--and the mission of Periwinkle aligned very closely, and we are very thankful to have been able to do our project through them. During our planning process, Periwinkle was able to give us feedback on our ideas thanks to their experience with working with hospital children. Not only were they a great resource for us, they also helped to facilitate the execution of our project while in the clinic with us at Texas Children's Hospital.
